Chelsea Clinton and Marc Mezvinsky are seen during their wedding, Saturday, July 31, 2010 in Rhinebeck, N.Y. Chelsea Clinton wed her longtime boyfriend under extraordinary security at an elegant Hudson River estate late Saturday.
The big day has finally come for a member of American royalty and her beau.
Former first daughter Chelsea Clinton and Main Line-native Marc Mezvinsky exchanged vows in a quaint New York town of Rhinebeck, N.Y. Saturday evening.
Chelsea, 30, is the only daughter of President Bill Clinton and former first lady and current Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton.
She has been dating the 32-year-old local boy for several years, but the two have been friends since they were teenagers. They both attended Stanford University and then reconnected while working together in a New York consulting firm.
Mezvinsky, an investment banker, grew up in Merion Station, Pa., but spent a lot of time in Washington, D.C. after his mother Marjorie Margolies-Mezvinsky was elected to Congress in 1993.
Prior to joining the U.S. House of Representatives, Margolies-Mezvinsky was part of the WCAU family. She spent four years reporting here from 1967 to 1971 before working for NBC News until 1991. Her reports earned her several Emmy awards.
Marc's father Ed Mezvinsky also served as a congressman for the state of Iowa in the 1970s. He and Marjorie later divorced after he was convicted for fraud in 2001. The former congressman served seven years in a federal prison for his conviction.
A microscope was placed on the small town of Rhinebeck as the country awaited the most talked about wedding of the year.
The town, which is about 90-miles from New York City, was inundated with press, government officials, movie stars and Clinton fans.
The wedding took place at Astor Courts, a secluded estate along the Hudson River built as a Beaux Arts style playground for John Jacob Astor IV more than a century ago. The estate features the sort of commanding view that once inspired Hudson River School painters, as well as 50 acres of buffer space to shield the party from prying eyes.
Between 400 and 500 guests -- including celebs like Stephen Spielberg, Barbra Streisand and Oprah Winfrey -- were expected to take part in the ceremonies. A longtime Clinton family friend says the cost for the wedding will be just under $1 million.
Following news of the wedding's commencement, the Clintons released this statement:
"Today, we watched with great pride and overwhelming emotion as Chelsea and Marc wed in a beautiful ceremony at Astor Courts, surrounded by family and their close friends. We could not have asked for a more perfect day to celebrate the beginning of their life together, and we are so happy to welcome Marc into our family. On behalf of the newlyweds, we want to give special thanks to the people of Rhinebeck for welcoming us and to everyone for their well-wishes on this special day."
