BRT Gets a Revision of Its Own

Fed up with Philly's property tax assessment system? Then you might be interested in the latest move by Mayor Michael Nutter.

Nutter’s Finance Director Rob Dubow is now the new Interim Executive Director of the Board of Revision of Taxes (BRT). The agreement will be in effect for an initial term of six months and is the first major step in reforming the system.

“I have been very clear that reforming the property tax assessment system is an urgent priority and we need to move as quickly as possible,” said Nutter in a statement Wednesday.

As the Interim Executive, it will be the Finance Director’s responsibility to supervise all BRT operations relating to real estate appraisals valuations, and assessments.

The new Dubow (or a designee) will report to the Mayor while keeping the Board fully apprised of day-to-day operations and future plans, according to a press release from Deputy Press Secretary Luke Butler.

While claiming that he’s committed to passing legislation this year, Nutter also stated, “we need to stabilize the system and restore public confidence.”

Time will tell how successful the administration will be in doing so.
