Virginia Tech Football Helmets to Honor Slain Journalists

The Virginia Tech Hokies will honor slain journalist Adam Ward and his colleague Alison Parker by placing stickers on their helmets during the season opening football game against the Ohio State Buckeyes on Labor Day, NBC News reports.

The team will wear stickers that feature the number 7 between a teal and a maroon ribbon, according to a statement from the team.

Ward, a cameraman, and Parker, a reporter, who worked for WDBJ7, were shot and killed last week during a live television broadcast. The gunman, Vester Lee Flanagan, died of self-inflicted gunshot wound hours after the attack, authorities said.

According to the release, teal was Parker's favorite color. Ward, a 2011 graduate of Virginia Tech, will be represented by the school's maroon color.
