Donald Trump's campaign chair is "confident" Trump's run for president is not behind Hillary Clinton's despite lagging fundraising totals and the recent removal of a top campaign leader.
During an interview with NBC News’ “Meet the Press” Sunday, Paul Manafort told Chuck Todd the campaign is “getting organized” and that the team is “now integrated with the Republican National Committee.”
The campaign endured scrutiny this week for a trip made to a Trump-owned golf course in Scotland amid the United Kingdom’s “Brexit” vote. Manafort defended the decision not to call off the trip, saying supporters are attracted to Trump because he is an international businessman. He called attacks on the trip “"tone deafness of the Hillary Clinton campaign."
Manafort formally took over the helm of the campaign after Corey Lewandowski was fired Monday. He’s advised presidential campaigns of Gerald Ford, Ronald Reagan and George W. Bush.
