Swollen Rivers Force Transportation Closures in Midwest

Transportation in parts of Missouri hit roadblocks Thursday as rivers in the midwest swelled to historic levels, NBC News reported.

Authorities closed down interstates 55 and 44, and transportation by boat, car and train were paralyzed in the St. Louis area.

Hundreds of homes in southwestern suburbs of St. Louis were damaged and hundreds of other homes were evacuated in the wake of the powerful storm.

Two rivers surged to record levels since the “Great Flood” of 1993. Waters surged after more than 10 inches of rain fell this week from Illinois to Missouri. At least 22 people were killed in Missouri and Illinois.
