Small Plane Crashes Off Grand Bahama; 4 Missing

Four people are missing a small plane crashed in the Atlantic Ocean near the island of Grand Bahama, prompting a search by authorities in the Bahamas and the U.S. Coast Guard.

The Cessna aircraft had taken off Monday from Ormond Beach Municipal Airport in Florida and was heading to Freeport, Bahamas, when it crashed.

Authorities have located debris in the water and are searching for any sign of the four people who were aboard the aircraft, Coast Guard Lt. Cmdr. Gabe Somma said.

A Coast Guard helicopter is assisting the Royal Bahamas Defense Force and local volunteers in the search. Grand Bahama is about 70 miles off the coast of Florida.
