SWAT Teams Capture Murder, Amber Alert Suspect in Lewisville

Boy found safe in North Texas hotel

Lewisville police arrested an Oklahoma man Wednesday morning suspected of killing his mother and abducting his son before fleeing to North Texas overnight.

At about 7:30 a.m. Wednesday, police captured 38-year-old Robert Connor III. His son, 6-year-old Declan Connor, was found safe in the hotel room.

Authorities in Osage County, Okla., said Connor shot and killed his mother and then abducted his son Tuesday night.

An Amber Alert for Declan was issued, though police didn't release the woman's name or any of the details regarding her murder, including a motive. Connor's great aunt, Marilyn Lorenz, said the murder victim was the child's paternal grandmother.

At about 3 a.m., the Lewisville Police Department learned that Connor may be in the area and that the car listed in an Amber Alert  was in a hotel parking lot near Vista Ridge Mall.

Law enforcement officers surrounded the hotel early Wednesday morning and evacuated nearby rooms before trying to contact the man.  Police tried to reach Connor by mobile phone and by calling the room, but none of the calls were answered.

Capt. Jay Powell, with the Lewisville police, said police then used a remote microphone to address Connor through his hotel room door.  He then surrendered and was taken into custody.

The child, meanwhile, has been placed with Child Protective Services.
