Pope Francis had an unexpected guest during last weekend’s Year of Faith celebration in Vatican City.

Thousands of people flocked to St. Peter’s Square to hear the pontiff speak about faith, and although a group of children was invited to sit on the pope’s platform, one little boy wanted to be even closer to the Holy Father.

While speakers from around the word talked about their faith and families, the little boy spontaneously walked onto the stage and stood right next to the pope's chair. He wouldn’t leave Francis' side, even at the encouragement of several cardinals.

The pope seemed amused, smiling at the boy and gently patting his cheek.

When it was time for the pope to make his speech, an aide tried to make the boy return to his seat, offering him what appeared to be a piece of candy.

But the boy instead wrapped his arms around Francis' legs and gave him a hug.

The pope didn’t seem to mind. He sat the boy on his own chair, his legs dangling above the stage, and continued with his speech.
