London-Bound Flight from Chicago Lands in Canada, Man Booted

Flight 86 left Chicago at around 6 p.m. CDT and was originally slated to land in London at around 4 a.m. local time

An American Airlines official says a flight that left Chicago and made an unplanned stop in Canada to kick an unruly passenger off the plane has landed in London.

Airline spokesman Kent Powell says the flight landed early Sunday at London's Heathrow Airport, its original destination. There were 187 passengers aboard the Boeing 777.

Powell told The Associated Press the 35-year-old man refused to follow the crew's instructions, but had no further details on what transpired aboard Flight 86 that left Chicago on Saturday. The man was transferred to authorities in Gander, Newfoundland.

Authorities in Gander did not immediately return calls seeking comment Saturday.

Powell says refusing to follow instructions on a flight, even something as simple as remaining seated, is a criminal offense.
