Shellie Zimmerman listens in during jury selection in Seminole Circuit Court on the fourth day of her husband George Zimmerman's trial June 13, 2013 in Sanford, Florida.
George Zimmerman's wife filed divorce papers electronically in a Florida court Thursday, her lawyer told NBC News.
"The documents have been received by the Seminole County clerks," attorney Kelly Sims said in an e-mail.
The filing comes a week after Shellie Zimmerman pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor perjury charge for lying during a bail hearing after her husband's arrest in the shooting death of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin of Miami Gardens.
Her husband of six years wasn't in court with her last week as she was sentenced to a year's probation and 100 hours of community service.
George Zimmerman was acquitted of second-degree murder and manslaughter charges in July.
