8-Year-Old Boy Helps Father Win Over $1 Million on Scratcher

A man has his young son, and a near-empty gas tank, to thank for making him a much richer man.

Lottery officials say 34-year-old Gaurav Sharma won more than $1 million in a Lucky for Life scratch ticket in California.

The lucky winner bought the ticket after his 8-year-old son told his dad the fuel gauge showed they were low on gas. Sharma then pulled into the Circle K gas station in Fremont on Ardenwood Boulevard, went to get his receipt, and decided to purchase a lottery ticket, too.

In his first scratch, the ticket indicated Sharma would receive  $1,000 a week for 25 years. In total, Sharma will receive $1.3 million,  collecting money until 2038.
