‘Breakfast of Champions' in San Francisco: Nothing Says Happy New Year Better Than a Roasted Pig Before Sunrise

There's nothing that says New Year's better than roasting a pig before sunrise.

Well, that's how the folks at the annual Breakfast of Champions in San Francisco see it.

As they have for the past 16 years, these hearty partiers continued their overnight celebration at 6 a.m. Friday  (or got a good night's sleep and set the clock early) to dance and eat, yes, roasted pig for breakfast, to ring in the start of 2016.

"If you're a champion, this is where you have breakfast," said Kevin Coon of Lafayette. "If you're sleeping right now, you're off to a bad start."

Angela Sheehan was trying to start the year off right. She had flown in from Denver on Thursday afternoon to celebrate New Year's in San Francisco with her boyfriend, and by early Friday morning, hadn't slept a wink.

"I've been going ever since," she said.

This year's festivities were held at The Midway on Marin Street, complete with the Space Cowboy DJ's.

On top of the partying, the organizers ask that guests who pay their $30 entrance fee also donate food and money for the San Francisco and Marin Food Banks.

The party lasts until the guests cry "uncle."
