Coast Guard Rescues 2 Stranded At Sea For 8 Days

The Coast Guard rescued two Bahamian citizens who had been stranded at sea Saturday.

Coast Guard crews rescued two Bahamian citizens who had been stranded at sea for eight days off the coast of South Florida Saturday, officials said.

Miami watchstanders received the report of a capsized vessel Saturday afternoon, immediately diverting the Coast Guard Cutter Comorant and launching a rescue helicopter from Miami, according to a new release issued by the Coast Guard Sunday. The pair was found in the water outside of Riviera Beach, just north of Palm Beach, Fla.

The helicopter lowered a rescue swimmer to aid the two people, who said they had been drifting for eight days and had swallowed sea water, the release said.

The two were transferred to Del Ray Medical Center for treatment.
