Mom, Teenage Kids Die in Tacony Apartment Fire

The fire broke out just before 5 a.m.

Chopper 10 was over the scene Tuesday of a fire that claimed three lives in the Tacony section of the city.

The deadly fire broke out just before 5 a.m. in an apartment building on 6800 block of Torresdale Avenue, authorities said.

Firefighters had to force their way into the second floor of the building by climbing a ladder and breaking a window, according to officials.

Two teens -- 13-year-old Anthony Ramos and his 19-year-old sister Krystal Broatto -- were killed in the fire, according to firefighters.

A third victim, the mother of the teens, had to be revived before being rushed to Frankford-Torresdale Hospital where she was pronounced dead Tuesday night, authorities said.

Firefighters later identified the mother as Gloria Searile.

The woman's third child was spending the night at a friend's house during the incident.

Fire Commissioner Lloyd Ayers tells NBC Philadelphia the blaze appears to have started in the barbershop on the first floor of the building.

Investigators continued to determine the cause of the fire. They were also investigating whether or not the building had two usable exits.

The building's owners, who live out of town, rushed to the scene. They were being questioned by police regarding the exits.

Torresdale Avenue was closed between Knorr and Longshore Avenue for some time after the blaze.
