Armed Driver Shoots Man During Road Rage Incident: Police

A bullet went through the driver’s door of the victim's Kia sedan and then struck him in the left hip.

A man is recovering after a driver followed him on the highway and then shot him during a road rage incident in West Philadelphia Saturday morning.

Police say an unidentified man in a black Toyota Camry followed Marcell Baptiste, 25, from I-76 to the 1700 block of N. 53rd Street around 10 a.m.

The suspect then took out a gun and opened fire. A bullet went through the driver’s door of Baptiste's Kia sedan and then struck him in the left hip. The suspect then drove away.

Baptiste was taken to the Penn-Presbyterian Medical Center where he is currently in stable condition. His family told NBC10 it's the first time he's ever been in the emergency room.

"We were like, 'Are you sure it's the right person?' It didn't make sense," said Baptiste's sister Karita Bryant. "Him out of all people. He'd never been in trouble."

The suspect is described as a 30-year-old black male with a dark complexion and beard driving a black Toyota Camry with dark tinted windows. Baptiste's family told NBC10 they want justice.

"Something has to be done about this gun thing," his mother Kim Sciulli said. "You can't keep shooting people and killing lives and thinking it's okay."
