Obama Encourages Employers to Hire Peace Corps, AmeriCorps Alumni

President Barack Obama launched a new initiative to encourage employers to hire alumni of the Peace Corps and its domestic counterpart, AmeriCorps.

Corporations ranging from Disney to CSX have signed up for Employers of National Service, as have many nonprofit organizations. They’ve agreed to recruit Peace Corps and AmeriCorps veterans for job openings, and include a checkbox on job applications that asks about national service experience.

Obama announced the initiative at a White House event celebrating AmeriCorps’ 20th anniversary. He was joined by former President Bill Clinton, who was in office when AmeriCorps was created.
