State officials say a ride operator has been fired after a girl was injured at Gillian's Wonderland Pier in Ocean City.
State officials say the 4-year-old was on the platform when the Speedway ride started Sunday.
The Press of Atlantic City reports Community Affairs Department spokeswoman Lisa Ryan said in a statement the incident was caused by operator error.
“The injured individual was on the platform when the ride started,” Ryan said in the statement obtained by the paper. “There are conflicting reports about whether she was in the ride vehicle and exited the ride prior to it starting or if she entered the platform after the ride was loaded. The park has reported to us that the operator was terminated.”
Officials did not release details about the extent of the child's injuries.
