Police are searching for a suspect who they say was armed with a knife when he robbed a woman who was with her baby.

It happened Monday outside a grocery store on Blackhorse Pike in Washington Township. Daria Campeggio was walking toward the shopping carts with her child when she says a young man approached her and demanded her purse in a calm voice.

“At that point he said, ‘don’t make me do this, you have a baby with you,’” said Campeggio. "At that point he pulled the box cutter out and pointed it at my wrist.”

Police say the suspect took Campeggio’s bag and fled on foot. Both Daria and her baby were unharmed.

“You feel like because you’re not putting yourself in a risky situation that you’re completely safe,” said Daria’s husband Mike Campeggio. “But that couldn’t be further from the truth.”

The couple, who live a half a mile away from the store, are urging their neighbors and the community to be on alert. Police are currently looking at surveillance video and are working with other investigators due to similar reported incidents in neighboring areas.

“If you want to try to make the quick buck, pick on somebody your own size,” said Mike.

The suspect is described as a black male in his early 20’s, standing 6-feet tall. Police say he was last seen wearing a white t-shirt, black shorts and shoes. If you have any information on this incident, please call Washington Township Police.
