Del. Woman Wins Tug-of-War Against Attempted Purse Snatcher: Cops

A 48-year-old woman fights off an attempted purse snatcher and wins.

Delaware State Police are searching for the man who they say tried to snatch a woman's purse right off of her shoulder.

The 48-year-old woman was shopping at the Food Lion on Beaver Brook Plaza in New Castle on November 8.

She told police she felt a tug on her arm, turned around and realized the man was trying to take her purse.

Investigators say the suspect kept pulling on the purse but the woman wouldn't let go. She held on until the man finally gave up and fled the store, according to investigators.

Police describe the suspect as a black male ranging in age from 17 to 25 years old, standing between 5-foot-5 and 5-foot-8 and weighing between 150 to 185 pounds. He was last seen wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and khaki pants. Police are asking anyone with information to call the Robbery Unit at 302-834-2630
