Woman Steals $10K From Bank Account of Small Business Owner: Cops

Police are searching for a woman who they say stole over $10,000 from another woman’s business account.

Police are searching for a woman who they say stole over $10,000 from another woman’s bank account.

Investigators say the suspect was somehow able to access the personal information of business owner Carolyn Holdsworth, including her bank account and driver’s license. She first tried to withdraw money from a Langhorne Borough bank but was unable to, according to police. She then allegedly went to the First Federal Bank on Galloway Road in Bensalem on June 14 where she withdrew around $10,000 from Holdsworth's business account.

Holdsworth says she has no idea who the woman is.

"How can this happen?" asked Holdsworth. "How did this happen? She even said to the teller, 'please excuse my sloppy handwriting, I have a splint on my wrist.'"

Holdsworth says she discovered the heist of her day spa business while banking online.

"Not only did she walk in there assuming my identity with my driver's license and her photo on my driver's license, but she also had the checking account number for my business."

Holdsworth says she keeps this information under lock and key. She also tells NBC10 however that she lost her wallet in Manhattan about seven months ago and quickly canceled everything. Police are still investigating if that has anything to do with the theft. They also have an important tip for people to protect their assets and identity.

"Put a fraud alert on your credit," said Sergeant Andrew Aninsman of the Bensalem Police. "You can do it every 90 days. It's free."

The suspect is described as a white female with dark hair and appears to be pregnant.  She was last seen wearing an orange shirt, dark pants and dark open toe sandals.

If you have any information on her whereabouts please call Detective John Monaghan at 215-633-3668.
