Woman Stabbed in Center City

A young woman landed in the hospital and a man she possibly knew landed in custody after a stabbing near a popular running trail in Center City Philadelphia.

The 20-year-old woman was walking along the 2400 block of Chestnut Street -- that's just above the Schuylkill River trail -- Wednesday night around 9 when a man suddenly attacked her and stabbed her in the chest before fleeing the scene.

Police caught up to the man a short time later and arrested him.

Investigators didn't immediately reveal the identity of either the victim or her alleged attacker. Philadelphia Police said it appeared that they knew each other prior to the attack. .

The woman was taken to Hahnemann Hospital where her condition remained unknown overnight.
