Mother of 4 Killed in Shootout

The man wanted for shooting an innocent mother of four in the Overbrook section of the city is behind bars.

Police say that Daniel Shelley turned himself in on Tuesday morning, three days after he allegedly shot and killed Hafeezah Nuri-Deen, 31, while she walked to her mother's house.

The shooting happened on Saturday around 7:52 p.m. on 58th Street and Malvern Avenue.

Nuri-Deen, an innocent bystander, was shot once in the left shoulder and once in the back. She was taken to Lankenau Hospital where she was pronounced dead shortly after 8:30 p.m.

"It hurt my heart because it's somebody that I've known from teenage days, all her life living here," said Patrick Francis, owner of Crest Food Market.

Francis says that he and other neighbors are sick of the senseless violence in the neighborhood.

"It's kind of hard to see such young people dying so young at an early age," said Francis. "It's sad, very sad."

"You don't want to be caught in all this," said Mary McCleary. "You got your grandkids, your kids, you don't want anything to happen to them."
