Woman Shot 9 Times, 4 Others Wounded in Violent Night

An engaged couple --including a woman shot nine times-- are in critical condition and three others are wounded after a violent night across Philadelphia.

Bullets struck the 43-year-old woman in her abdomen and legs while she was outside a Rite Aid pharmacy at Castor and Magee avenues in the Oxford Circle section of the city around 11:45 p.m. Monday, according to police.

Her 55-year-old fiance was also hit three times in his stomach, according to reports.

Authorities recovered the gun used in the crime on the 6100 block of Algon Avenue-- about a mile away from where the double shooting occurred. Investigators are searching for a male suspect, who they describe as 5-foot 5-inches tall and wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt.

Both victims were transported to Aria Torresdale Hospital, where they are in critical condition.

Less than an hour later, a gunman fired at least 17 shots at a Northeast Phillly home, which had several adults and children inside.

Two men, both 32, were shot on the 4600 block of Kendrick Street in the Holmesburg neighborhood around 12:30 a.m. Tuesday, according to officials.

Police say one victim was struck in the chest and leg, while the second victim was hit once in each leg. Both were taken to Aria Torresdale, where they are in stable condition.

Investigators have not released a motive in either incident, which they say are unrelated.

A fifth person also arrived at Albert Einstein Medical Center around 2 a.m. Officials say the man was shot in the chest. Police are working to confirm whether or not this victim was struck during one of the earlier shootings.
