Woman Pleads Guilty to Fake Kidnapping

A central Pennsylvania woman is awaiting sentencing after pleading guilty to charges for faking her own kidnapping at a Lancaster park last year.

The Intelligencer Journal/Lancaster New Era reported Saturday that 34-year-old Maria Collazo pleaded guilty to making false reports to police and causing false alarm to the public.

Her lawyer Michael Marinaro says she was suffering serious psychological disorders at the time and currently attends counseling and takes prescription medications.

The New Holland woman called 911 in May, saying she had been sexually assaulted, tied up and forced into the trunk of her car.

The paper says investigators used surveillance footage to determine the report was a hoax. Sentencing is expected to occur in a few months.
