A central New Jersey woman has been charged with murder in the beating death of her mother-in-law.
Mercer County prosecutors say 45-year-old Tasneem Diwan was arrested late Friday at an Atlantic City casino. Her bail was set at $1 million cash, and it wasn't known Saturday if she has retained an attorney.
Diwan also faces two weapons counts stemming from the attack that occurred Tuesday in the East Windsor home where she and 73-year-old Safia Diwan both lived.
Prosecutors say Tasneem Diwan struck her mother-in-law in the head numerous times with an unknown object. But they haven't said what prompted the attack.
Police found the victim's body in the home when they responded to a 911 call. An autopsy determined that she died from blunt force trauma to the head.
