Cheltenham Police are searching for a driver who was involved in a fatal hit and run Monday.

An elderly woman was crossing Church Road at Old York Road in Elkins Park, Pa. around 5 p.m. when she was hit by a white van, police said.

The driver stopped, got out of the van and looked around before fleeing east along Church Road, police said.

The woman, whose identity is being withheld until her family is notified, was rushed to Abington Memorial Hospital in serious condition, but later died.

The driver was described as a white man in his 50s with dirty brown hair. The white van had a ladder on its roof and rear tinted windows, but witnesses weren't able to distinguish any additional features.

Police are asking those with information to call 215.855.1600 x476.
