Woman Gives Birth, Gets Married on Same Day

It was a birthday and a wedding day to remember for one local family. While Marquise and Latanya Walker were set to get married on Tuesday, their wedding plans changed dramatically after Latanya went into labor ahead of her due date on Monday.

Marquise rushed Latanya to Crozer-Chester Medical Center in Upland. With her soon to be husband by her side, Latanya gave birth to their first child, Makayla Kenzie Walker, at 12:57 p.m. The baby girl is 19 inches and weighs a healthy seven pounds.

Knowing about their wedding plans, the maternity nurses at Crozer-Chester quickly took action. Shortly after Makayla’s birth, Rev. Joel B. McGee, the pastor of Providence Baptist Church and president of the Ministerial Fellowship of Chester and Vicinity, was brought in.

A wedding ceremony was then held in a private room at the hospital that same day without a hitch.

“I’m exhausted,” Latanya said while laughing. “But besides being exhausted and tired, this couldn’t have been a better day. I’m just so overjoyed. We are so blessed.”
