Woman Found Dead in Car in NJ Creek

Police say a boater discovered the car around 1 p.m. Monday

The body of a 55-year-old woman was found inside a car in Mantua Creek in Gloucester County early Monday afternoon, according to the East Greenwich Township Police.

Police say that the car containing Connie Oman Burns of Maple Shade, N.J. was found by a boater around 1 p.m. between Berkley Road and North Street.

On Sunday Burns had told family members that she was planning to attend a family party that afternoon, authorities said.

She never showed causing her sisters to report her missing Monday about an hour before her 2009 Ford Focus was found about a quarter of a mile from the Berkley Road boat ramp, according to the Gloucester County Prosecutor's Office.

Burns' 2009 car was pulled from the water with the woman still seat belted into the driver's seat.

They were investigating why and where Burns' car went into the water. They don't suspect foul play, they said.

Around 4:15 p.m. Sunday nearby South Harrison Township Police received a report of a car driving erratically on Monroeville Road. The car was later determined to be Burns' Focus, authorities said.
