Teen Fights Off Rapist With Stun Gun in West Philly: Police

A woman used a stun gun to fight off a man who tried to rape her at knifepoint on Christmas Eve in an alley in West Philadelphia, according to police.

The 19-year-old woman was walking from the SEPTA depot at 58th and Callowhill streets just after 7:30 p.m. when she noticed a shadow coming up from behind her, investigators said.

The attacker put a knife to the teen's neck, knocked her over and then dragged her towards an alley near the intersection of 59th and Vine streets, authorities said.

The assailant attempted to sexually assault the woman, who managed to pull out a stun gun and tase the man, causing the suspect to run from the scene, police said.

He was last seen heading northbound on the 300 block of Salford Street, officials said.

Investigators said the suspect, who is about 5-feet 7-inches tall and in his late teens or early 20s, was wearing a gray hoodie, blue jeans, and green and blue shoes during the attack.

Anyone with information on the crime or the attacker's identity is urged to contact police.
