A 51-year-old woman was found dead in a car that was floating in a flooded Montgomery County road in Friday morning.
Pennsylvania State Police responded to Stump Hall Road in Skippack Township 6 a.m. Friday to find a 2005 Toyota Solara floating in floodwaters that had swelled over the road from a tributary to the Skippack Creek, authorities say.
"This morning it was still dark out...it is very unlikely the motorist would have time to stop," State Police Lt. David Buckley. "It probably came upon her too fast and too furious."
The car was floating in the water near Skippack Golf Course and witnesses alerted police to the fact that a woman was trapped in the driver’s seat.
Police and fire rescue crews tried to reach the vehicle but a rushing current from the rain-swelled waters prevented them from reaching the car until after the water began to recede, police say.
When the rescue crews finally got to the partially submerged Toyota, they found the woman, who was unable to escape from the car, dead in the front seat.
A golf course worker who witnessed the incident told NBC Philadelphia that the woman’s car was literally swept away by the rushing waters.

The storm that moved through the area on Thursday forced evacuations in Philadelphia and led the American Red Cross of Southeastern Pennsylvania to set up a number of shelters for flood victims.
As of Saturday afternoon, most of those shelters had closed. One remains open at Norristown High School.
