Hot cereal was poured down a 79-year-old man’s throat. He died about two weeks later, and now, his Resident Assistant was charged with involuntary manslaughter, Montgomery County District Attorney Risa Vetri Ferman said.

Alvador Thompson, 55, was caregiver to Ronald Myers and other patients suffering from medical conditions like Alzheimer’s at the Cambridge-Brightfield Assisted Living Facility in Hatfield, Pa.

On October 8, 2008, Thompson fed Myers very hot Cream of Wheat for breakfast, which severely burned his lips, tongue and throat, according to police. Thompson didn’t report the incident right away so Myers didn’t get medical treatment until several hours later, police said.

Myers spent three days in the hospital.

Upon returning home, Myers, who was described as a hearty eater by family, stopped eating altogether because of the burns in his mouth, according to officials.

He soon died on October 23, 2008.

Thomspon was charged with involuntary manslaughter and neglect of a care dependent person.

Her arraignment is set for August 5.
