Woman Burned, Beaten After Meeting Couple on Chat Line: Prosecutors

Prosecutors: 3 adults, teen beat and burn Pa. woman

Authorities say four people beat a woman and set her on fire after luring her to Philadelphia on a chat line.

Prosecutors say three adults and a 14-year-old youth are charged in the attack on an unidentified 20-year-old Pittsburgh woman.

Investigators identified the adult suspects Wednesday as 25-year-old Tamara Rhoades and her 34-year-old husband, Michael, and 22-year-old Steven Mills. Prosecutors say the juvenile is a relative of the couple.

The three adults face attempted murder, assault, false imprisonment, conspiracy and related charges.

Authorities say the Pittsburgh woman was lured to the Rhoades’ N 23rd Street apartment by Tamara. Once there the woman was held against her will, and the three adult suspects were accused of beating the victim, pouring a flammable liquid on her and then lighting the woman on fire on Feb. 21, said prosecutors.

Authorities say the woman was able to put out the flames but was badly hurt. She reported the attack to police there after being put on a bus and sent home.

Investigators say a second woman, who is 21, was being held against her will at the couple's apartment when police raided the home Feb. 22. She also was allegedly lured to the home via a chat line, prosecutors said.

The three adults are each being held on $750,000 bail. Attempts to reach their attorneys weren't immediately successful.
