Wilmington Road Closed for Freight Train Derailment

A Wilmington, Delaware road will be closed for hours because of a nearby freight train derailment, state police said.

Lancaster Pike at DuPont Road was shut down after four East Penn Railroad train cars fully derailed while traveling from a Coatesville, Pennsylvania steel mill to CSX in Wilmington, rail officials said.

East Penn Railroad CEO Bob Parker told NBC10 two cars were loaded with steel plates and the other two were empty. There were no reports of injuries and the cause of the derailment is unknown.

The road is expected to reopen around 5:30 p.m., officials said.
