Wilmington Residents Told to Beware of Burglars

Police say there have been several home break-ins in Wilmington neighborhoods since mid-May.

Wilmington Police are warning the public of a burglary trend in neighborhoods in the west side of the city.

Since May 18th there have been several residential break-ins in the Trolley Square, Wawaset Park, Forty Acres and Highlands areas of Wilmington, according to police.

Investigators told NBC10 the burglaries have happened at all hours of the day but some have been at night while the residents are home. In some cases the suspects forced their way through windows and doors, in other incidents there was unsecured access to the homes.

The burglaries are under investigation but police say they cannot confirm the incidents are related. They're reminding residents to lock their doors and windows and to be aware of suspicious people or activity.

"It's very concerning," said local resident Lindsay Lowry. "My son is over at the house right now. This is a neighborhood filled with children. It's a neighborhood that's filled with families."

Anyone with information about the crimes is asked to call the Detective's Tip Line at 302-576-3990.
