Outage Cuts Power to Wilmington Traffic Lights

Police say a power outage shut down several traffic lights and cut power to dozens of homes throughout downtown Wilmington today.

The outage was reported in area of the 4300 block of Washington Street around 5:10 a.m.

The city placed portable stop signs at intersections where lights went out.

Delmarva Power said that they believe winds caused the outage. The winds, up to 32 mph, according to NBC10 meteorologist Brittney Shipp, even blew over some of the temporary stop signs.

Delmarva Power reported more than 175 electric customers without service in the area.

Crews restored power by 8:45 a.m. and the traffic lights began working again after a recloser was reset, Delmarva said.
