Armed Man Carjacks Woman, 71, at Delaware Wawa Then Forces Her to Drive to Another Wawa: Police

A 71-year-old woman's trip to the Wawa wound up becoming a trip to two Wawas after an armed man and an accomplice carjacked her.

The incident began at the Wawa on Philadelphia Pike at Beeson Road in Wilmington, Delaware around 5 p.m. Tuesday when a man pulled a gun on the woman and demanded money, said New Castle County Police.

The armed man then forced the woman to drive more than 6 miles to the Wawa at DuPont Highway and Memorial Drive in Claymont where he took the woman’s cash and fled, said police.

Surveillance images from inside the convenience store show the suspect, wearing an orange shirt, entering the first Wawa shortly before 5 p.m.

Police arrest Norris Farlow (inset center) after they say surveillance images captured him before a carjacking. John Johnson (inset left) is accused of helping Farlow during the carjacking between two Wawas.

Late Tuesday night, police on patrol saw a car run a stop sign in the Rosegate community. They found the driver, Norris Farlow, had an active arrest warrant. They also recognized the 51-year-old as the man caught on surveillance video before the carjacking and found an orange shirt -- as well as drug paraphernalia -- in Farlow's car.

A judge arraigned Farlow on carjacking, theft and drug charges and sent him to county jail on $33,000 cash bail.

Upon further investigation, police learned that Farlow allegedly had help. Police named the alleged accomplice as John Johnson, 51. Investigators say Johnson went to New Castle County Police headquarters in order to retrieve the silver sedan used in the carjacking. Johnson was then arrested and charged with kidnapping, carjacking, theft and other related offenses. He was arraigned and committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution in lieu of posting $53,000 secured bail.
