A simmering feud between two students at a Philadelphia public school boiled over Friday morning as a teenage girl stabbed a teenage boy with scissors, Philadelphia police and the school district said.

The 13-year-old girl stabbed her 13-year-old classmate in the abdomen inside the William Dick School on West Diamond Street in Strawberry Mansion, authorities said.

The teen was rushed to Hahnemann Hospital where he was listed in stable condition.

Lee Whack, a spokesman for the School District of Philadelphia, said the stabbing happened as students were transitioning to their next class just before 11 a.m. He said the two classmates had an altercation during science at William Dick School but the teacher de-escalated it and thought it was resolved.

Police arrested the girl and recovered the scissors at the scene, investigators said.

The school serves students from kindergarten to eighth grade.

No other students or staff were injured.
