Where Do Your Donations Go?

TRENTON, N.J. - Unsure of what happens to the clothes you donate in bins near stores?

A new New Jersey law seeks to make it clear.

Since the start of the year, owners of those donation bins have been required to post information about who what organization will collect the clothes, how they will be used and who could profit.

Violators could be subject to a penalty of $20,000. Enforcement is up to each town.

State Assemblyman Paul Moriarty, who sponsored the law, says that many of the bins are used by for-profit companies. He says donors should know that.
