Del. Bird Positive for West Nile Virus

Public health officials say a bird has tested positive for the west Nile virus.

The Division of Public Health said Friday that an American crow collected in the north Wilmington suburbs was submitted to the lab on Aug. 6.

Officials say west Nile has not yet been found by the division's network of 20 sentinel chicken monitoring stations. The illness has not been diagnosed in any humans or horses.

State officials say follow-up mosquito control efforts will be implements in the area where the bird was found.
