Some Genuardi's to Become Weis Markets

Supermarket name swap for 3 area grocery stores

Not every Genuardi’s Market is becoming a Giant store.

Three locations of the long-time Philadelphia-area grocery chain will become Weis supermarkets, the Sunbury, Pa.-based Weis Markets Inc. announced Monday.

These are the stores set to become Weis Markets:

Conshohocken (200 Ridge Pike)
Doylestown (13 Old Dublin Pike)
Norristown (25 West Germantown Pike)

“We’re extremely pleased to be adding these stores to our store base,” said Weis Markets’ President and CEO David J. Hepfinger.  “We look forward to serving these communities as the lead local merchant as we have in 33 counties throughout Central, Eastern and Northeastern Pennsylvania.  We will also be reaching out to the associates of these stores to discuss employment with our company.”

Weis and current Genuardi’s owner Safeway Inc. reached agreement on the purchase but the three stores will continue to operate as Genuardi’s stores until the purchase is official, according to Weis Markets.
