SUV, Truck Strike, Kill New Jersey Teen: Police

A South Jersey teenager died after he was struck by a dump truck and sport utility vehicle while crossing a roadway on Christmas Eve, authorities said.

The 17-year-old was struck by a Ford Escape along Fries Mill Road at the intersection with White Birch Road and then fell into the street before being struck by a Mack tri-axle dump truck that was traveling behind it on Wednesday, according to Washington township, Gloucester County, police.

The victim was transported to Cooper Trauma Center, in Camden, where doctors pronounced him dead. His identity wasn't immediately released.

Police said that both vehicles were driving through the intersection around 5:45 p.m. with a green signal and it wasn't known why the teen was in the roadway.

Both drivers remained at the scene of the crash and were not injured. No charges were filed and each driver was wearing a seat belt, said police.

The crash remained under investigation and police asked that anyone with information to email Officer Joshua Bradford or call 856-589-6650.
