Jury Selection Begins in Walking Trail Slaying

Jury selection has begun for a western Pennsylvania man charged in the drug-related killing of a man on a walking trail last year.

Christopher Salsgiver, 24, is charged with criminal homicide, robbery and other crimes in the June 2013 death of 46-year-old James Alexander.

Salsgiver's co-defendant and fellow Glen Campbell resident Gregory Patterson was convicted in May of second-degree murder and is serving life in prison.

Indiana County prosecutors say Patterson and Christopher Salsgiver plotted to rob Alexander because they believed he had ripped them off during previous heroin deals.

State police and prosecutors alleged that Patterson forced Alexander to sit and shot him in the head.
Patterson blamed Salsgiver, whose jury selection began Monday morning before Common Pleas Judge Thomas Bianco.
