Woman Shot Dead After Shift at Wal-Mart

Police say a man who apparently shot himself in an apartment building surrounded by police is the same man suspected of fatally shooting a woman outside a western Pennsylvania Wal-Mart hours before.

State police say 22-year-old Mariah Anderson, of New Castle was shot and killed as she got into her vehicle after finishing up her shift at a western Pennsylvania Wal-Mart.

Pennsylvania State Police Lt. Eric Hermick says the dead man is believed to be the shooting suspect, 27-year-old Carlos Harper, who had been dating her. Online court records show police obtained a warrant for his arrest on charges of criminal homicide and aggravated assault Monday morning.

Anderson worked at the discount store in neighboring Union Township and was shot as she got into her sport-utility vehicle about 11:15 p.m. Sunday. She was rushed to Jameson Hospital in New Castle where she was pronounced dead a short time later.

Police say at least five shots were fired into the vehicle and that Anderson was shot in the face.

Union Township is about 45 miles northwest of Pittsburgh, and several miles from New Brighton, in neighboring Beaver County, where police had the apartment surrounded.
