Philadelphia Exceeds Snow Removal Budget by $1.2 Million

Despite a chilly end of the week, the winter is behind us. But its effects linger -- as evidenced by the bills for snow removal that surfaced as a topic during city budget hearings.

The city exceeded the budget set aside for snow removal costs, said Streets Commissioner Dave Perri.

"Our operations are supplemented with contractor equipment. We had $4 million budgeted for contractor equipment last year," he said. "I know we exceeded that amount by $1.2 million."

Perri said the city is purchasing new trash trucks, which will be equipped with brining equipment that he said will better prepare city streets for next winter's snows.
