WATCH: Young Boy Upstages Mayor Nutter During Press Conference

Mayor Michael Nutter was in the Grays Ferry section of the city Wednesday to announce a new renovation project for a local park. But the Mayor was upstaged by a young boy who was quick to let everyone know how excited he was to be on camera.

Nutter joined Philly Councilman Kenyatta Johnson and other officials for a groundbreaking ceremony at Stinger Square Park on the 3200 block of Dickinson Street. Nutter announced a $505,000 renovation project at the park that will include new concrete, new trees, game tables, a rain garden and the removal of dead trees.

During his speech, Nutter brought up several local children. Among them was a young boy who began waving and yelling towards a person in the crowd as Nutter spoke.

“Looks like we’ve got two press conferences going on at the same time,” Nutter said with a chuckle. “He’s got some things on his mind and he’s expressed them.”

As Nutter continued to speak, the boy pointed at another friend in the crowd.

“Right there on the camera! We on TV,” the boy exclaimed while breaking out into a little dance.

The crowd as well as the normally reserved Nutter broke down in laughter as the boy seized his moment in the spotlight.
