Voters “DROP” Rizzo

City Councilman Frank Rizzo’s involvement in the DROP program likely cost him a fifth term.

Looks like the reign of the Rizzos has come to an end…and the City Councilman’s involvement in the Deferred Retirement Option Plan (DROP) may be to blame.

”I think the negativity of the DROP issue is certainly a factor,” the Philadelphia Daily News reports Rizzo as saying.

Although Rizzo tried to detach himself from the controversial program that allows city employees to pick a retirement date up to four years in advance and make pension payment to an account that accrues interest while that employee is still being paid, it made no difference, according to the Daily News.

The paper also reports that Rizzo even made an attempt to figure out how to return the retirement money that he was to receive next December -- all to no avail. Republican voters rejected the Councilman’s bid to serve a fifth term. In fact, he came in seventh in the polls.

Rizzo says that even though he won’t be representing City Council in the next election, he will continue to stay involved in Philadelphia, according to the Philadelphia Daily News.
