Volunteer Firefighter Admits Stealing $40K

Police say the firefighter returned the money to his fire department

A New Jersey volunteer firefighter has admitted to stealing more than $40,000 from his department.

Authorities say Chad Jurman, 22, has paid back the Bellmawr Park Fire Company.

He pleaded guilty Wednesday to theft and forfeited his right to hold public office, including serving as a volunteer firefighter. He's to be sentenced in May to probation.

Camden County prosecutors say Jurman took the money starting last year after he became treasurer for the department and that others in the department discovered the theft earlier this year.
