Vineland Brothers Accused of Trying to Kill Their Mom

Two brothers – ages 22 and 12 – are accused of trying to murder their mother.

Carol Nicholson called 911 Thursday night to report that she'd just been stabbed, police say. When they got to the house on Adler Lane in Vineland, they saw two people taking off in a car.

Police chased the two down the block, and then took them custody. Neighbors identified the two as Nicholson's sons, David M. Stone, 22 and his younger brother, who is 12.

"It's an extremely close neighborhood and everybody on the street are like family you know and it's just shocking and sad," said neighbor Neil Ensslen.

Stone is a senior at Cabrini College in Radnor. The younger son is a seventh grader in the Vineland school district where his mother also works as a substitute teacher.

Neighbors said they were no signs of any trouble brewing between Nicholson and her sons. One neighbor said Stone had once talked about becoming a priest.

"This is just unbelievable," another neighbor said.

Both brothers were charged with attempted homicide, aggravated assault and weapons offenses.

Nicholson, 51, was hospitalized in fair condition Friday afternoon.
