Vigil Held for Slain Philadelphia Police Officer

Friends and family gathered Friday night to remember the life and legacy of one of Philadelphia’s finest on the six-year anniversary of his death.

On February 13, 2009, John Pawlowski was shot and killed after responding to a fight between a cab driver and another man in the Olney section of Philadelphia. He was 25-years-old.

The gunman, Rasheed Scrugs, was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole after a jury was unable to reach a unanimous verdict on a death sentence.

Pawlowksi’s vigil took place at 6 p.m. on North Broad Street Friday.

Pawlowksi’ served with the Philadelphia Police Department for 5 ½ years. He is survived by a wife and son. His brother is also a Philadelphia Police officer while his father retired from the force.
