A western Pennsylvania man who wrote a bad check from his dying aunt's bank account will spend nearly one to two years in a county jail.
The Cambria County judge who sentenced 48-year-old Robert Vasilinda on Tuesday, made the maximum sentence a day less than two years, which means he won't have to serve the time in a state prison.
Vasilinda had power of attorney over his aunt's finances when he wrote the bad check to a Lowe's home improvement store. He pleaded guilty to that crime in March, but police and prosecutors contend he looted the woman's accounts and he was ordered to pay $8,800 in other restitution, which is being challenged by his public defender.
Vasilinda says he cared for the woman and did nothing with her money ``unless she told me.''
